« The futur must be shared. »
The future must be shared
We are living in an era of societal transformation. Whatever the reason – a pandemic, climate change, mass political and economic protests – this transformation is accelerated by technology. The key to truly breaking free from the limits of the past is to share the future.
Sharing is not limited to tangible things. The Internet has proven that almost nothing stops people from all backgrounds to share their opinions, ideas, knowledge and experiences at any time. While most of the world was in lockdown, younger ones helped their elders ordering food and groceries online, or taught them how to use videocall apps to keep in touch with their loved ones. Technology not only empowered people to care for their neighbors, but also enabled them to create a bond of trust with people they would probably never have met. The social impact of our connected world is redefining the way we interact with each other. Social media allows minorities and individuals suffering from inequality to instantly access and share information, raising awareness of their suffering at a larger scale. It has informed and brought people together faster than ever before. The gap between digital and real life is closing, forcing people and companies to align with better values or risk their reputation and trust by continuing to operate selfishly in the shadows. Greater responsibilities are expected in a world where sharing is a necessity to ensure our well-being.
While having access to products and services is already more important than owning them, the optimization potential of shared resources and under-used goods is already clear.
The COVID-19 crisis is one of the most urgent threats we face today. But there is also the continuing climate crisis. By 2050, the world population should reach 10 billion people according to the United Nations. This means more resources consumed, more space occupied and therefore, potentially more carbon emissions. Sharing goods, resources and services will be key to achieve a viable and sustainable future. While having access to products and services is already more important than owning them, the optimization potential of shared resources and under-used goods is already clear. Imagine the shift: from short-term privately-owned disposable goods to high-quality, sustainable and shared ones.
It is impossible today to solve global problems with local solutions. Technology has reduced space and time to a mere anecdote. We are all connected to each other like members of a gigantic family: humanity. Free sharing and access will enable us to develop this collective consciousness and cultivate the responsibility necessary for the good of all and the prosperity of everyone.
